Angelica Huang (she/her)

Founder, Sough Goods
Melbourne (Naarm), Australia

"Sough is female-founded, operated, and led by yours truly. I am Angelica - just your regular burnt-out corporate slave on a journey of finding self-love, and hoping to make that experience easier for everyone else going through the same."

If Sough Was a Musical Style, Artist, or Song?

We’re all in this together - High School Musical.

Because we totally are! We all have a part to play in changing how society views women, wellness, and sex. Self-expression is important and until people are able to express themselves freely, without feeling ashamed or embarrassed for being who we are or enjoying what we enjoy... we are all in this together, and we still have so much to do!

What Are Sough's Core Values – What Makes You, ‘You’?

All of Sough’s products aim to be thoughtful, intentional, and multi-purpose. I wanted to create a line of products that everybody could use, however they wished. The experience of our customers is at the forefront of everything we create and we love that people are able to use our products differently and enjoy them all the same!

How Has Your Upbringing Influenced Your Views of Sex and Pleasure?

Growing up in a strict Asian household, sex is a skipped topic altogether. It's one of those things that I’m sure even if I was married with children, my parents would still want to believe I’m a virgin.

So naturally, when I came up with the idea of Sough… I have to admit I was too embarrassed to tell anyone. One day, with a false sense of confidence, I told my sister super quickly in passing on Facetime that I wanted to start a wellness brand, and I wanted that wellness to extend to sexual wellness. And then what seemed like the impossible happened - she went ‘you know what, that’s such a great idea’. In that moment, I felt comforted by the fact that talking about sexual wellness did not make me a “bad person” - that it was completely normal. She did, however, see right through me and told me I would never be able to sell something I was embarrassed about because other people would find it embarrassing, too.

Step one of starting Sough needed me to build confidence in myself and truly believe in my products. Every time I have spoken to someone about Sough, it’s like I am always surprised at how supportive everyone is. That shouldn’t be the norm - it should be an expectation that we can talk freely about it without the guilt and stigma.

I understand that it’s not always easy changing a view that has been ingrained in you since childhood (even when you know how ridiculous it may be). But I promise, every day, it gets easier. It has been so liberating being able to talk openly about how Sough because you realize that even though change happens slowly, it needs to start with you.

What Makes Sough a Top Shelf Brand?

I love that Flossy’s Top Shelf is a beautifully curated series of products from brands looking to shift what sexual wellness has looked like in the public eye for so long.  For Sough to be recognized as a Top Shelf brand, means to me that my efforts in really trying to change the negative connotations around sexual wellness and focus on the end product and user experience are seen.

Tell us About One of Sough's Stand-Out Products and How it Prioritizes Pleasure…

It’s gotta be our Pulse!  Pulse was created to sit beautifully on a shelf, a bedside table, or anywhere in your home without the fear of being left out for the world to see.

Challenging society’s views on what a vibrator looks like was something we wanted to prioritize. We want our Pulse to be associated with words you wouldn’t usually think of for sex toys - elegant, tasteful, aesthetic. Sexual wellness should be celebrated and I’m so glad the era of giant pink sparkly vibes is over!

Pulse is made of soft silicone and has a ribbed texture. It is the perfect size for travel and is completely USB chargeable so you can take it with you everywhere. It fits perfectly along your vulva or its tip can also be used for more targeted control. With 10 different pulse settings, there’s just so much you can do with it!

Why is it Important to Support Top Shelf Brands?

I totally agree that there are brands out there that really thrive off profiting from women’s vulnerabilities. What I love about flossy and the Top Shelf series, is that you get to see a more intentional collection of products and brands that actually want to make a difference and genuinely care for their customers.

What Does Pleasure Look Like For You?

Pleasure, through self-care, has become a way for me to release tension not just physically but also mentally. A big part of pleasure, to me, is learning to be confident in my own body and mind.

It is hard to express in words exactly what I find pleasure in, or how I think pleasure looks, because I’m still trying to figure it out myself! And that is okay.  We should always make room for growth.
