This week we had the pleasure of chatting with Jonny Co-Founder Bec Park — Australian-based, vegan and conscious condom brand that is breaking the stigma around purchasing and using condoms.

flossy: If you told your 16-year-old-self you would be running a sexual wellness company, what do you think they would say?

My first response at 16 would have been “sexual what?!” And then I would take a big sigh of relief when I understood that sexual wellness is actually a thing!

flossy: What was the *aha* moment for you, Bec and Samantha when you realized – “Hang on, we need to start something!”

The *aha* moment definitely came out of a conversation where we were sharing experiences of our loves, lusts and one night stands. And it dawned upon us that we all had the same experiences and awkwardness around talking about, buying and then using condoms. We then realized that we could do something about this! And literally, at that point, Jonny was born.

flossy: In your own words, what is the biggest barrier that you/Jonny have come across when it comes to people engaging in safe sex and how do you think we can overcome this barrier?

I think the biggest barrier is the lack of conversations about sex and what that means to you; what that means to your partner and how “safe sex” works for both of you.

If we can just get the conversations started, in a trusted and respectful environment - then the awkwardness can drop away, and even deepen the connection with that person.

flossy: What are 2-3 tools you think everyone should have in their pleasure toolkit?

  1. Condoms
  2. Lube
  3. Sense of fun

flossy: Who is your sexual wellness icon?

We have recently been exploring the works of Emily Nagoski – Sexual Wellness educator and author of ‘Come As you Are’ & many Ted Talks. She is fantastic in explaining the science behind intimacy and how we are all normal and how confidence and joy are the keys to a great sex life! We highly recommend reading/watching her. She will definitely help get the conversation started. ;)

flossy: What’s one thing you wish everyone learned in sex-ed (but likely didn’t)?

That sex is about pleasure; self-pleasure and mutual pleasure. That it is fun and fantastic, and exciting, and intense, and a wonderful human experience that should be respected and enjoyed.

flossy: How would Jonny define Shame-free Pleasure?

Pleasure is shame-free when conducted with consent, respect (for self and for others) and a whole lotta fun.
